"Just because you said more it doesn't mean people will remember what you said"
Good afternoon, dear readers of my blog!
My homework was to watch three performances and choose one to analyse. When I heard the task for the firts time, I did not like it. To be honest, I am not interested in watching performances without acting or singing, when person just speaks. I find it boring and I do not understand people who get excited by it. Well, I used to think so. But then...
I watched Aaron Beverly speaking and his words touched my heart. I had never
thought I would really like somebody’s speech!
Indeed, his words inspired me. Not only the words but also the speech delivery was effective. Though he won the 2d place in the World Champion of Public Speaking, I believe his performance was the best one. Now, I would like to prove it.
Indeed, his words inspired me. Not only the words but also the speech delivery was effective. Though he won the 2d place in the World Champion of Public Speaking, I believe his performance was the best one. Now, I would like to prove it.
First of
all, we should speak about speech content. Mr. Beverly started his speech with
a joke to draw the audience’s attention. Then he gave a link-sentence that
helps him to make a thesis. I believe that the introduction was effective and
the structure is observed. To be honest, the structure of the body is not strict
as we cannot find the typical Topic sentence-Explanation-Conclusion but there
are laconic transitions between paragraphs. Support points are the strongest
points of the speech because they are appropriate and complete. They are logically
expanded and it is easy to follow the idea. He summed the whole speech and then
call for some sort of action in the end. That’s why I give
· Organization 17 pts
· Support 15 pts
· Cohesion 10 pts
Secondly, I cannot help mentioning the speech delivery.
It may be two types – vocal and physical presentation. We will start with the vocal
presentation. The articulation was perfectly clear and even me, foreigner, did
not have any difficulty with understanding. There were emphases on most important parts
and it helped to make it more emotional. Volume, pitch and tempo were accurate.
Speaking about physical presentation,
there was constant eye contact with the audience. The posture was open and gesturing
was vivid. However, there were too many movements on the stage and it was a bit
destructing. Summing it up, I give
· Vocal presentation 20 pts
· Physical presentation 18 pts
As for the general effectiveness, the speaker
made a good use of time and made a good impression on the listeners. Then, he
wins 15 pts.

In conclusion, Aaron Beverly’s speech is organized in a nice way and it apparently
has no disadvantages.
